Why alpaca
Alpaca vs. Merino Wool vs. Cotton
How alpaca fiber stacks up against the two most common sock materials, rated honestly.
This sock: Cold-Weather warmth, Extra Soft softness
| Feature | Warrior Alpaca | Merino Wool | Cotton |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warmth | Best Hollow fibers trap heat, warmer than wool without the bulk | Good Warm, but needs more bulk for the same heat | Poor Little insulation, and none once it gets wet |
| Moisture-wicking | Best Pulls sweat away and dries fast | Good Wicks well, dries more slowly | Poor Absorbs sweat and stays wet |
| Odor resistance | Best Naturally antimicrobial, stays fresh in boots | Good Resists odor well | Poor Traps odor after a day of wear |
| Itch-free softness | Best Smooth fiber scales, no prickle | Good Soft, though some feel a prickle | Good Soft and itch-free |
| Sensitive skin | Best Lanolin-free and hypoallergenic | Fair Contains lanolin, which can irritate | Good Gentle on most skin |
| Durability | Best Strong fiber that holds its shape | Good Durable, prone to felting if overheated | Fair Wears thin and stretches out |

Toasty!
"Very comfortable socks that stand up to the winder chill of New England. Great on the trail and on the cold cobblestones in the evening."
Perfect for transition months - or anytime
"These are perfect spring/fall and possibly summer socks. Then again, no matter the season, alpaca socks can’t be beat! I definitely stock up because I can’t be without alpaca socks."
Alpaca socks
"Fantastic! Very soft and super comfortable."
Basic training
"Got them for my son. Leaves for army basic training at Fort Benning in three weeks. I’ll get back to you."
Terry lined socks
"OMG soooooo comfortable! Never had happy feet until now! But I think I messed them up they seem so not like the dryer maybe I'm wrong. But besides that I'm happy happy happy!!!"
Warm, but they do NOT Last
"I'm conflicted. I really like how warm and cosy these socks are, but within a month of wearing them regularly (maybe about 3-5 washes total), they developed a long hole (both left and right) on the balls of the feet. I still wear them, and they are still warm, but if I walk on tile, I can feel the cold tile under my feet. I have had these socks about 1. 5 months, and doubt they will last longer than 3 months total."
Wonderful socks!
"Exactly what I was looking for: soft, light and lofty, super warm, no moisture at day's end!"
Love them
"I was surprised that I could wear my socks all day and into bed for the night . My feet did not get hot while wearing my socks as I slept as do other socks. Yet my feet stayed warm all day. Great discovery."
Comfortable but not sure about longevity
"There socks were super comfortable when work with a pair of boots, but after only I've wearing of about 3 hours, there are already fibers being pulled out at the heel, toe, and ankle (where the boot tops rubbed). Not sure how they'll hold up over time, or if maybe they should be reserved for shoes only."
Very comfortable but worried about longevity
"Recently got these outdoor socks and wore them once with a pair of boots. They felt awesome, but after one wear of maybe 3 hours there was significant fuzzing from loose fibers on the heels and where the boot tops rubbed. Some on the inside around the toe, too. Not sure how long they're going to last."
Q&A
- What is "terry lined" mean? Is this lining still your alpaca blend? Or another material?
- Hi! Terry, like that found on a towel, are the little loops that add extra fabric, air pockets and cushion, line the sock. The terry loops are made from our alpaca blend and make these socks cozy, soft and thermal. Hope this helps you in your decision making process! :-)
